This is a case study of an application of sequential play therapy for a child suffering difficulties in language, cognition, social development, and behavior modulation due to developmental delay. The subject was five years and three months old when his parents referred him to therapy. He showed delayed language development and had no interest in others. He had difficulties in concentrating on activities in his nursery school and conflicted with peers. Based on his developmental needs, a total of 71 sessions were conducted by modulating the role and intervention of the therapist. At the initial stage, the therapist applied child-centered developmental play therapy to establish rapport with the child and mother-child interaction therapy to enhance attachment between the child and his mother. After that, cognitive therapy and group therapy for social competence were administered to extend child¡¯s interest and enhance cognitive ability and social interaction. At the same time, parent counseling and education were conducted to support his mother. As a result, overall adjustment ability of the child was enhanced including communication and emotional regulation and the child could prepare for attending an elementary school.
